A co-worker of mine really wants to expand his reading lists.  He likes Twain and the Patrick O'Brien series, but what he really wants to read are stories about people in the IT field; possibly with authors who can correctly write about coding/ protocols and his daily real-life job issues.  Any thoughts on where I should point him?
Thanks!

First knitting project ever--finally DONE

Ethan James' baby blanket / car-seat blanket (not really big enough for a floor play mat)
Concentric Squares pattern from a stitch dictionary: 5 squares wide
multi colored blue/green/white acrylic baby soft yarn
2 balls
162 sts, 170 rows
21” x 29” finished

Square pattern close-up

Issues:
3 semi-noticable mistakes (at least for fabric people)
last 1/3 much more even tension and stitches than first 2/3
need to practice cast-on and first row better--very sloppy
need more have more than 1 1/2 month knit time for this size

Not too bad for a first attempt.  Will be better next time

I can has new knitting project now?

I can has headdesk now?

Dear idiot,

I run the system that tells our payment system who should get reimbursed.  If  I set you up incorrectly, you will not get reimbursed.  If I am not given authorization to enter confidential data, you will not get reimbursed.  If I’m supposed to guess what confidential information needs to be entered, chances are you are not going to be reimbursed (I’m good, but not that good).  If I am told the opposite of what needs to be entered in order to maintain confidentiality, you will not get reimbursed.  As the Sys Admin, there is no one else with greater access in this company.  If you would like to send a memo to your boss, asking permission to ask my boss to set up someone with a higher pay-grade than me with my permissions so that they can enter this confidential information (after much training), feel free to do so.  You’ll get reimbursed, but not anytime in the near future.

Do you see a trend regarding reimbursement here? No?

I will be forwarding all irate employee emails to your entire team distro list and all phone calls to your personal cell phone.

With warmest regards and have a wonderful day,

Swine Flu? We don't need no steenking Swine Flu.  We've got another, more serious contagious issue.

Step away from your computer
keep 6 feet back from my cube
Do not open your mouth
Do not talk to your coworkers as this will spread teh stupidz instantaneously
If you believe yourself to be infected, please leave the workplace immediately
If you are told you are infected, shut up and leave the workplace immediately
Failure to do so will result in horrific beatings commencing . . . . .NOW

I love reading posts.  I love reading responses to posts.  I often track 2 or three specific ones throughout my day between doing actual work.  What I don't love is *me* responding to posts.   1/3 the time all I can come up with is a "Me too" to add to the 350 me toos already there.  1/3 of the time I respond with a rambling, meant to be empathetic but ends up being all about me and not your original post, that I then end up apologizing for posting,  and then 1/3 of the time I have a brilliant response, but it sounds so wierd when I type it that i spend all afternoon trying to get it just right re-thinking/re-typing so that it eventually is bereft of all of its wittiness and sparkle that I just decide not to post it.
How do so many of you make this look easy? she asks rhetorically
OK--angst break over--Thanks to all of you who keep me entertained all day long.

"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains."  Opening lines of Seth Grahame-Smith's "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies".

Laughed myself silly reading this review in the Post.  I'm usually not a Zombie genre fan, but this, I must read.

On that note, anyone up for a Zombie/Space Alien themed Baby Shower for Mallery/Ascelyn at Pennsic?

Thank You Thank You Thank You

New-to-me car.  Super cool and cute. SPARKLY PURPLE!

During an offhand "hi" in the office hall the Director of Facilities and I started chatting about the office morale at the one-year acquisition/merger anniversary.  She's been tasked by her VP to report on the situation and has been asking around. She's had many many 'we've got low morale' discussions with employees, but can't figure out where the problems really lie.  HA HA--Here I come to save the day! (play mighty mouse music please)
Since I was able to give specific examples of issues and have the benefit of working with multiple departments in the past year, I've been invited to a meeting with her VP and some others from HQ to discuss issues, processes, headcount, etc.
I feel as though I can finally make a worthwhile impact here.  This is such a an enormous mood booster.  (ok, yes, a bit of an ego trip, too--but how often do you get to say "YAY ME" at work?) Horn toot!

Hope everyone else has as nice a day as I'm having :)

So, it's been a week now and I can't believe how addictive this site is.  I'm really enjoying getting insights to friends' thoughts--especially since I'm so bad at keeping in touch normally with people.  One thing that has been wandering around in my head, though--will being on LJ along with my spouse change the way  we post? Before I joined LJ, Hubby would occasionally have me read some of his posts over his shoulder.  And, he would refer to me in a post as "Sweetie"--a name that he would never call me in person.  Now that I'm on LJ and one of his Friends, will he change the way he refers to me?  Will he censure his posts knowing that I'm likely to read them? Will I monitor my responses more closely if I think he'll read them?  (OK, I already rewrote this 5 times knowing he'll read this!)
How have other couples on LJ handled this?  Have you noticed any changes to your postings? Do you filter more often?
Or am I just waaaaaay over-thinking this, like the INTJ that I am?
